QUESTIONS
The things people ask.
Prices, timelines, ownership, and what happens after launch.
Can you add functionality like bookings, a shop or accounts?
Yes. These are normal parts of a site rather than add-ons to it, and they get built into the same project:
- A booking system
- A cart with secure checkout
- Subscriptions
- Accounts and login
- A blog you can post to yourself
- Accessibility built in rather than bolted on
- Maps and fast search
- Contact and enquiry forms
What any of them does to the price is scope rather than a surcharge, and I will tell you before it is built rather than after.
How much does a website cost in Melbourne?
It depends on how much site there is, so here is the whole ladder rather than a range:
- Landing page (1–3 pages) — from $1,500
- Full website — from $5,000
- Branding — from $2,000
- App development — from $15,000
- Care plan — from $150 / month
- Photography (Melbourne, per session) — $200
- The TrueForm Package — from $6,000
Every number is a starting point rather than a quote. What moves it is scope — how many pages, whether there is a booking system or a catalogue, whether the branding exists yet. I will give you a fixed number in writing before anything starts, and it does not move after that.
How long does a project take?
Most sites are finished inside a week of starting the build. The part before that — working out what the business actually needs, and going back and forth on multiple directions until one is right — takes as long as it takes, usually another week or two depending on how quickly feedback comes back.
The reason it is a week and not a month is that there is nobody to hand it to. The person who designed it builds it, so nothing waits in a queue between the two.
What do you need from me to get started?
A conversation first, and nothing prepared. I want to know what the business does and what success would actually look like — that is the Brief stage and it is where most of the useful information comes out.
After that: any branding you already have, whatever copy or photos exist, and access to the domain if there is one. If none of that exists yet, that is normal and it is part of the job rather than a prerequisite for it.
What if I do not like any of the directions?
Then we keep going. The creative loop exists precisely so that you see the thing before it is built — multiple genuinely different directions, and every round takes your feedback in. Nothing gets built until you have actually seen it and said yes to it.
If none of the first set land, that is information rather than a problem: it usually means the brief missed something, and the second set is better for it.
Why one person instead of an agency?
Because most of what goes wrong on a project goes wrong between people. A brief reaches the developer third-hand, a direction nobody quite signed off on gets built, and the invoice grows every week it drags on.
One person holding the whole project means there is nothing to hand over and nothing to lose in translation. It also means I take on fewer projects at once, which is the trade — you get the attention, and I cannot take everything.
What happens after launch, is maintenance included, and do I get analytics?
Yes to all three, and they are the same thing: a care plan, from $150 / month.
It covers content changes as the business needs them, software and security kept up to date, and analytics set up properly so you can see traffic, reach and what is actually bringing people in.
You can start it any time after launch rather than committing at the beginning, and cancel it whenever you no longer want changes made. Nothing about the site stops working if you do.
Do I own the site and the brand files when it is done?
Yes. The site, the source files, the logo files in every format you might need, and the domain are all yours, and they stay yours whether or not you keep working with me.
There is no arrangement here where leaving means losing anything, and nothing is held on a platform you cannot get out of.
Can I update the site myself?
If you want to, yes — anything that needs regular updating gets built so you can change it without touching code. A blog, a specials board, a menu, a team page.
Plenty of clients would rather just send me the change, and that is what the care plan is for. Both work; it is worth deciding which one you actually want before the build rather than after it.
Do you handle hosting and domains?
Yes, and it is set up in your name rather than mine so you are never locked to me for it.
If you already have a domain we use it. If not I will register one and point it at the site. Hosting for the kind of site I build is inexpensive and I will tell you what it costs rather than folding it into a bigger number.
Do you work with businesses outside Melbourne?
Yes. The design and build work happens the same way wherever you are, and most of it is calls and shared files regardless.
The one thing that is Melbourne-only is on-site photography, since that means turning up with a camera.
What if I already have a logo, a site, or a designer?
All fine, and none of it gets thrown away by default. If you have branding that works I will pick it up and extend it rather than start again — that is explicitly part of the branding service.
If you have a site that has aged, the usual answer is a rebuild rather than a patch, but I will tell you honestly if it is not worth the money.
How do payments work?
Half up front and half on delivery. The 50% deposit starts the work; the remaining 50% is due once the finished thing is live.
The number is fixed in writing before anything begins and it does not move unless you ask for something that was not in the scope — in which case I will tell you what it changes before doing it.
You are charged for the finished thing rather than for the hours it took to get there, which is the whole point.
